Published by Punch on Mon, 05 Dec 2011

Businesses across the globe are expected to spend $140bn on managed telecoms services in 2012.Insight Researchs latest market study revealed that slow economic growth and reduced spending on basic telecoms and Information Technology services would make many enterprises discover that purchasing managed services was a cost-effective alternative to increasing internal staffing. While business spending on all telecoms services is expected to grow in single-digit percentages over the next six years, the study also found that global spending on managed services was expected to grow at an annual compounded rate of 14.7 per cent over the period. The study predicted that revenues associated with the managed services market would nearly double from nearly $140bn in 2012 to $266bn in 2016.The Research Director, Insight Research, Mr. Fran Caulfield, said, Stability has returned to the telecommunications industry and with the continued shift to wireless and cloud-based services we are forecasting strong revenue growth in the managed and outsourcing services segments. He added, As enterprises shift their applications to the cloud and as more users access these applications via mobile devices, the level of complexity involved in managing these moving targets increases.Buying a suite of Managed Services can get the enterprise around the complexitythe local IT manager can outsource the most difficult tasks to a service provider, and probably get the job done faster and at a lower cost.Managed services have become common place in the global telecoms market.Recently, Indias Bharti Airtel expanded its managed services agreement for its domestic operations with Ericsson.Under the new five-year multi-vendor, multi-technology managed services agreement, Ericsson will reportedly operate, maintain and provide services across 70 per cent of Airtels Indian mobile infrastructure, with Airtel expanding the contract to cover 15 of Indias 22 telecoms circles.Similarly, Bharti Airtel recently struck a managed VAS services deal with Comviva for its Africa operations. As part of the five-year deal, Comviva will manage all VAS nodes and provide services across Airtels 16 operations in Africa. From Huawei, IBM to Ericson, experts submitted that telecoms managed services were growing in the global telecoms industry.
