A number of Nigerian secondary school teachers will be attending training at the Space Academy in the United States as part of promoting science and technology education in the country.The training will be sponsored by Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions West Africa Limited in conjunction with the Anyiam-Osigwe Group.The Honeywell Educators@Space Academy programme, which is part of the sponsors Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, is an all expenses paid one week intensive training sponsored in part by employee donations of Honeywell International, a Fortune 100 multinational company with head office in the United states.The Nigerian Country Manager, Honeywell, Mr. Anand Bhatia, in a statement on Friday, encouraged secondary school teachers around the world and in the countries where Honeywell operates to apply for the programme through a 500- word essay to be submitted online.Bhatia said the programme provided middle-school teachers around the world real-life astronaut training through new and innovative teaching skills.He said, Participating teachers will engage in a week-long intensive educator training programme focused on science and space exploration. All lessons and activities are linked to national science and math standards and are designed to inspire the next generation of middle school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. A select group of Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy alumni also will attend an advanced course.He added, Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay describing the tools and techniques they use to motivate students to pursue science and technology education and careers.
