Quadrangular Games, potential gold mine ' Ettah

The Quadrangular Games has been described as a fertile ground capable of producing athletes who can register the Nigerias name on the world map of sports.The Group Managing Director, UAC of Nigeria Plc, Mr. Larry Ettah who declared the 21st edition of the Games closed at the weekend, said that the level of participation, the games officiating standard, facilities and the new focus of the games have all made the championship a platform where athletes that would do the country proud during international competitions should be discovered and nurtured.The annual games involve four foremost clubs in Lagos - Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Apapa Club and the host of this years edition, Lagos Country Club.Ettah commended the Local Organising Committee for putting together a successful competition and more importantly, for introducing the children edition where junior members of the participating clubs honed their skills in preparation to winning laurels for the country in future international championships.He expressed his companys desire to work towards making the games more successful and build enduring future that would benefit the country.Lagos Country Club emerged champions at the end of the eight-day tournament, topping the medals table with 37 gold, 27 silver and 56 bronze medals.Ikoyi Club 1938 finished second with 17 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze medals. Apapa Club won 9 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals, while Lagos Lawn Tennis Club won 3 gold and 8 bronze medals.In his remarks, Mr.Wale Osomo, President of the Lagos Country Club, expressed delight at the successful completion of the games and also commended HotSports Nigeria Limited for excellent marketing of the games.
