All communities in Ekiti 'll benefit from capital projects

Published by Tribune on Mon, 05 Dec 2011

GovernorKayode Fayemiof Ekiti State has promised that his administration would carry out capital projects in all communities in the state in the next fiscal year.He said the construction of at least five kilometers of road by the 16 local government councils would now be carried out every year.Fayemi made the promise at a village square meeting he held with the people of Moba Local Government Area in Otun-Ekiti, the council headquarters. He also held a similar meeting with the people of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Iye-Ekiti, where he promised that all communities in the state would have their pressing needs accommodated in the 2012 budget.Representatives of 13 communities in Moba and seven communities in Ilejemeje presented their three most important needs which they wanted the 2012 budget to capture.Fayemi noted that the construction of roads in the council areas would boost socio-economic activities and speed up the development of the grassroots. He announced that construction work would soon commence on the Oye-Otun Road, which leads to Ero Dam and Ikun Dairy Farm, located in the council area.Fayemi said his administration was already working on the resuscitation of Ikun Dairy Farm, which was mismanaged by the former administration, leading to the death of 600 cows.He announced that the dairy would be given to an investor capable of managing it, after it must have been put to proper shape. The governor stressed the importance of Ero Dam to the economic development of the council area, and said his administration had installed a 2500 KVA generating set at the dam to boost its operational capacity. He said government was also collaborating with the African Development Bank (ADB) to upgrade the dam to make water available to more communities in the state.Addressing communities in Ilejemeje council area, Fayemi said the Ido-Ipere-Iludun Road contract awarded by the former administration was terminated because of the shoddy job done by the contractor, and promised to re-award it to a competent contractor soon.
