Ijagbo community commended on self-help projects

The Kwara Stategovernment isconcluding arrangements to link all the various communities within the Kwara South Senatorial District through good road network and provision of infrastructure to facilitate the integration of the communities for social and economic development.The state governor, Alhaji Abdul-Fatah Hamed gave this indication in his speech at the Ijagbo Day celebration held in Ijagbo town, Oyun Local Government Area of the state, recently.The ceremony, which was witnessed by delegations from both Kwara and Osun state governments, including commissioners, traditional rulers, special advisers, retired and serving government functionaries, among others, was held at the Baptist Primary School playing ground in the town.The Kwara State governor who was represented by the Special Adviser on Communication, Alhaji Abdul-Raheem Adedoyin, stated that the planned regionalintegration would also involve the provision of basic amenities to improve the lives of the people in the localities.The governor expressed gratitude to the people of Ijagbo community for standing solidly behind him and his government.He promised that Ijagbo town would be central to the planned regional integration of his government.In his remarks, the Chairman of Oyun Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Omoniyi, noted that Ijagbo has continually served as a veritable centre for quality manpower for both the state, national and international development efforts.He commended the people of the community for their commitment to self-help projects for community development.Ealier, the Chairman of Ijagbo Descendants Union, Chief Samson Adebayo Oyawoye, has disclosed in his welcome address, that mobilisation of resources and self-help efforts from the indigenes had been a major means for executing projects for the community 'consequently, a number of the infrastructural, educational and social-welfare facilities that we now have were executed through communal efforts, although with substantial assistance from the state government.'Chief Oyawoye called on the Kwara State government to make rural areas attractive enough for young graduates, especially to engage in farming and agro allied ventures.The chairman of the occasion and Chairman Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, Chief H.O. Adediji commended the people of Ijagbo for their sense of commitment and promised to identify with the development of the town.Traditional rulers at the occasion included the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba AbdulGaniy Ajibola Olusookun II, Olojoku of Ojoku, Oba AbdulRazaq Afolabi, the representatives of Olofa of Offa, among others.
