How Kano plans to host NIPR, by Ya'u

Published by Guardian on Mon, 05 Dec 2011

THE stage appears set for this year's Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of national officers of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) with Kano State chapter as host. The convention is billed to take place between December 11 and 14, 2011 in Kano while delegates are expected from all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.Conscious of the importance of adequate preparation to the success of the event, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) under the chairmanship of the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Dr. Umar Faruk Jibril has been working round the clock to ensure the success of the AGM.Interestingly, the Chairman of the Kano State chapter of NIPR who is also the scribe of the LOC, Malam Sule Ya'u Sule served the former governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, as media aide for eight years, meaning that Sule Ya'u and Dr. Faruk belong to different political camps.'But for the hosting of the national convention of the NIPR, we have a united front,' declared Ya'u, noting that 'we are professionals, and different political lineages shouldn't be a barrier. We bid for the hosting right, and it was given to us by the national secretariat. The job now is to deliver, political differences notwithstanding. The glory is for our chapter and Kano State at large.'Mallam Ya'u who was among the delegates from Nigeria that participated in the just-concluded All Africa Public Relations Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, is very optimistic about the election segment of the AGM.'Kano is known for its pragmatic and progressive posture. We are ready to ensure that only candidates that can move NIPR forward are elected. Whosoever delegates from all over the country feel can lift the institute will certainly be supported,' he assured. And to delegates, Ya'u has reassuring words: 'Adequate preparations have been made in terms of logistics and other details as well as security. They are safe. There is no cause for any fear as security agencies in the state have been mobilized.'With the hosting of the national NIPR in Kano, Ya'u hopes people in the northern part of the country will be better enlightened about the role of the institute in socio-political and economic development of the nation.'We also want to showcase the activities of the Kano State chapter and I hope the national leadership of the institute will appreciate this contribution,' he said.
