TO underscore its commitment towards encouraging cleanliness and personal hygiene among nurses in Nigeria, PZ Cussons, makers of Zip detergent, have introduced the Zip Nurse of the Month Awards.The final phase of the awards, which was held at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) and Mother of Christ Hospital in Enugu State, witnessed record attendance from the nursing community, top hospital management, PZ Cussons officials and the media.'This award is a commendable initiative by Zip Detergent from the PZ Cussons stable and would go a long way in encouraging Nigerian nurses, especially those in UNTH to maintain superior standards of cleanliness at all times,'' Chief Medical Director, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH said, in his remarks at the last phase of the ZIP Nurse awards in Enugu. 'We see this as a unique way to support the medical profession. Undoubtedly, this award will encourage nurses to be decent in appearance and professional in conduct.'The ZIP nurse awards was held in six General Hospitals and in three regions across Nigeria, namely Lagos, Kano and Enugu.Explaining the restriction of the awards to the General Hospitals, Esther Tontoye, PZ Cussons Marketing Manager, Fabricare, stated, 'the choice was based on the high patient and caregiver population.'The choice of hospitals and nurses was also to buttress the 'the brilliant white' unique brand proposition.At the Enugu regional awards, Jude Moses Nweke emerged winner at the Mother of Christ Specialist Hospital, Enugu after a rigorous screening of candidates by the hospital awards committee. He got N50, 000 cash and lots of Zip detergents.Other winners of the award include; Oluwatosin Ismail (LASUTH); Temitope Maria Ogunnowo (Ikorodu General Hospital); Salihu Bello Abdulsalam (Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital); Samira Ahmed (Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital).The Area Sales Manager of PZ Enugu depot, Chinelo Ugwu, said: 'The focus on nurses is one of the platforms the ZIP detergent brand is deploying to connect with its consumers and to reiterate the brand proposition for brilliant whites wash.'The awards would hold quarterly in six hospitals and three regions with a singular goal of aiding those in nursing practice provide safe, competent and ethical nursing care to Nigerians.
