ACCW: First Deepwater battle champions Interclube

Nigeria champions First Deepwater will battle defending champions Interclube of Angola on Tuesday (today) at the ongoing 17th FIBA Africa Club Championship for Women at the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.The Nigerian side, hosts of the competition, began on a bright note beating Angolas GD Maculosso 64-46 in the opening game on Sunday.First Deepwater coach Lateef Erinfolami says his side respect the other teams in the competition but added that they were eyeing the continents top prize for women club basketball.We are ready for any opponent; the players are ready to give their best in all the matches and make Nigerians proud, Erinfolami said.In their first match against Maculosso, First Deepwaters Chinyere Ibekwe recorded 21 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Nkechi Akashili added 16 points, four rebounds and two assists while point guard Upe Atosu contributed 10 points in the victory.Nigerias other representative in the championship and two-time champions of the competition, First Bank, who walked-over INJS of Cameroon in their opening fixture, will file out against Maculosso while Kenya Ports Authority engage INJS.The six teams that confirmed their participation in the biggest basketball club competition for women will take turns to engage each other in a round-robin basis while the top four teams would advance to the knock-out stage of the event.
