I was born to score goals ' Yakubu

Published by Punch on Tue, 06 Dec 2011

FOUR-goal striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has told those who cared to listen, including Super Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi that he will always deliver if he gets the service.Aiyegbeni scored all Blackburn goals in the 4-2 defeat of Swansea at the weekend and the Nigerian insists scoring is second nature to him albeit he expressed surprised at his incredible feat against Swansea. He said, Its unbelievable to get four. But I always believe I can score goals and theyve given me the opportunity to do that here.We won and thats an unbelievable feeling. Were going to stay in the league. We know its a long way to go.Look at the way we are playing. We play better football, passing the ball. We are not just kicking it long.A couple of months ago we were struggling, losing games late on. But to get the three points is really crucial.Blackburn boss, Steve Kean was full of praise for his Swansea match winner. The Yak is top notch; he can score all sorts of goals. He can score headers, he can score penalties, he can score tap-ins and he can score the sort of goals like the first one today (Saturday).Hes excellent, hes popular around the place, and it was nice to present him with the match ball.Yakubu, who now has nine goals to his name this season, became the first Rovers player to score four in a league match since Simon Garner achieved the same feat against Sunderland in 1986.Meanwhile Aiyegbeni has been named into the ESPN English Premier League team of the week. The former Everton striker was chosen in a 4-4-2 formation with Arsenals free-scoring striker, Robin Van Persie as his strike partner and Chelsea boss, Andres Villas Boas as the coach. It is the second time this season the Nigerian will make the team of the week selection.
