141 Zamfara communities benefit from UBE self-help projects

About 141 communities in ZamfaraState have benefited from 2011 community self-help projects on the platform of the Universal Basic Education Programme.Governor Abdul-AzizYari, who disbursed funds to the benefiting communities recently in Gusau, said the projects were aimed at ensuring maintenance culture of UBE structures.The money, he said, should also be used to provide water, toilets and other facilities needed for effective implementation of UBE programme.The governor, who noted that development of education should not be left for government alone, also stressed the need for other stakeholders to actively participate for the growth of the sector.Yari commended the communities for participating in the self-help projects and urged other communities to register so as to enhance the chances of participating in the programme.He also said the state government would place more emphasis on monitoring and supervision as part of measures to ensure effective implementation of UBE programme.Yari said the government would continue to accord education priority to enable the state to realise its dream of joining the educationally developed states in the country.
