Ondo govt committed to educationa at grass roots

The Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Prince Banji Okunomo, has said that the present government in the state is committed to the development of education, particularly in the grassroots communities of the state.Speaking at the inauguration of the Chief John Morayo Okunomo Education Foundation at Etikan town in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, he said government was determined to use education to liberate the people of the grass roots in the state.Late Chief Okunomo, who died in 2008, was the Balogun of Etikan kingdom and the father of the local government chairman.The chairman said the Foundation was inaugurated to immortalise his late father who he said contributed immensely to the educational development of the people of the town during his life time .The council boss explained that the Ilaje Local Government would continue to liaise with the state government and other relevant corporate bodies to ensure that every student in the council, especially those from the oil-producing area have access to good education.He said the Foundation would be giving scholarship to indigent students in the area on annual basis, while some secondary school students will have their WAEC and NECO examinations fees paid by the Foundation.At the inauguration of the Foundation which also marked the third commemoration service of the demise of Chief Okunomo, 50 secondary school students were given N10,000 each by the foundation for their 2012 WAEC and NECO examination fees.Prince Okunomo who described education as the yardstick of development in every society said the focus of the Foundation would be on educational development of students in Etikan kingdom.He appealed to the students of the council in tertiary institutions to shun cultism and other social vices that can mar their future career but to be good ambassadors of the council and state in their various schools.
