Skills acquisitions: Osun govt to train 620 women

The Osun State government is to train620 women, including widows at the grass roots, under its skills acquisition programme.Mrs Mofolake Adegboyega, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo recently.According to the statement, the less-privileged women, who are the target of the programme, would be trained in different vocational skills to make them self-reliant.'The beneficiaries are to be trained in various vocations such as bead making, decoration, tie and dye, soap and pomade making, catering and other small scale businesses.'This will enable them to generate enough income to keep their families intact thereby reducing the possibility of engaging in social vices,' she saidAdegboyega said Governor Rauf Aregbesola hadapproved the programme as part of his six integral agenda to banish hunger and poverty in the state.She said the ministry had distributed 90 food processing machines, including palm kernel crackers, as well as rice milling and palm oil processing machines.According to her, the machines will reduce the difficulties associated with the traditional methods of food processing, as well as improve the quality and quantity of processed food.
