Suswam commends NDIC for Benue sports development

GOVERNOR Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has commended the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) for helping to grow sports in the state through sponsorship of tournaments.Speaking at the weekend at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi during the closing ceremony of the maiden Benue Inter-local Government Basketball Championship, organised by the state's Ministry of Sports in conjunction with NDIC, Suswam, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. David Salifu, said the sponsorship by NDIC followed government's clarion call for individuals and organisations to show interest in sports development.He enjoined the state's council chairmen to show more commitment to sponsoring sports tournaments, as well as sponsoring teams to championships to aid the discovery and development of talents.Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Aondowase Chia, said the doors were open to individuals and organisations with interest in investing in sports development in he state, just as he urged other organisations to join in.Explaining NDIC's sponsorship of the tourney, the managing director, Umaru Ibrahim, represented by Feture Otedoh, said the gesture was to assist Benue youths to develop their skills and acquire knowledge to enable them make useful financial decisions.At the end of the tournament, Ohimini Local Council came tops in the male category, followed by Buruku and Otukpo. In the women category, Logo Local Council topped the table, with Obi and Gboko taking the second and third positions respectively.
