April polls: DPP candidate raises alarm over PDPs plan to raise N1.5bn from councils

Delta North senatorial candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Prince Ned Nwoko, has raised the alarm that the chairmen of the 25 local government councils of the state have been ordered to cough up N60 million each to fund the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the April polls.According to the candidate, who addressed journalists in Asaba, on the issue, there was pressure on the chairmen from the state government to comply.Nwoko said some of the chairmen had come to him and cried out over the pressure, describing the action as fraudulent and unlawful because the money belonged to the people.But the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Oma Djeba, dismissed the allegation as untrue and said that with the dwindling financial fortune of the councils, it was not possible for them to raise a dime for whatever reason.The DPP chieftain, who recently defected from the PDP in the heat of the primary election, however, warned the chairmen to jettison the directive or be ready to face the wrath of the law.I  will ensure that EFCC is after any of the chairmen that raised the money to fund the PDP, stressing that the electoral act was explicit on how much a candidate was expected to spend.
