Dream Team returns without fanfare

MEMBERS and officials of the Dream Team V returned to the country in the early hours of yesterday with gloomy faces, after failing to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics as a result of their dismal performance in the CAF-organised U-23 Championship in Morocco.The team landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos about 6.20am without fanfare as the players were only received by members of their families.Three players, captain Obiorah Nwankwo, Daniel Uchechi and Babatunde Michael however, did not return with the team as they have all gone back to their respective clubs right from Morocco.Interestingly, only the Protocol Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation was at the airport to receive the team as none of the executive committee members of the NFF showed up.Also, there was no bus to convey the players and officials out of the airport with their luggage, as some of the players had to wait until their relations and friends surfaced with their private cars.The Dream Team V it would be recalled lost their first two games 0-1 to Morocco and 1-2 to Senegal before they recorded a face-saving 4-1 victory over Algeria in the last group game, a result which was not good enough to see them through to the semi-final of the Olympics qualifiers.
