Enugu State: UNN to start preparation for WAUGTHE University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) cricket team will soon start camping for the West Africa University Games (WAUG) holding in Nigeria from January 11 to 22, 2012. The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, will host the competition in which UNN is representing Nigeria following its victory in the 2011 NUGA Games.Feelers from the school indicate that Nigerian former international, Rev. Dr. Jacob Onyechi, is giving his unquantifiable support towards making the dream a reality.Imo State: Imo eager to host the women championshipImo State has indicated interest in hosting the third edition of the National Women Cricket Championship in 2012. Officials of the state, who announced the bid, say it is as a result of the state's record in the two editions of the competition. Imo currently has two players, Juliet Emena and Chioma Ibe, in the national team preparing for the African Women championship in Uganda.The officials disclosed that Imo's bid is being supported strongly by the South East states, as Governor Rochas Okorocha has serious interest in sports development. The region believes the hosting of this competition would help boost the image of cricket in the zone.Anambra: Planning fresh tourneys, new school joins the gameAnambra State Cricket Association has concluded consultations with stakeholders in the game on new competitions to raise the standard of the sport in the state. The association has been consulting with the former chairman of the defunct Nigeria Cricket Association (NCA), Igwe Ogbuefi Alex Nwokedi, the new Bishop of Awka Diocese, Efobi, Justice Phillip Umeadi and other stakeholders to ensure the game is improved in the state.The outcome of the development will lead to the adjustment of competitions and schedules for 2012. Meanwhile, following the progress made by the Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka, other schools, including Comprehensive School, Nawfia, have already indicated interest to play the game. The principal of the school has volunteered to be bringing his students to Bishop Crowther Seminary for training.Edo/Delta League: F16 defeats Western Cricket Club by 79 runsF16 Cricket Club, at the weekend, defeated Western Cricket Club by 79 runs in the fourth game of the ongoing Edo/Delta League. F16 won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 158 for eight in 35 overs. Former international star, Ovie Osuaso, was the top scorer with 80 runs, while Derrick of Western Club was the pick of the his club's bowlers with two wickets for 25 runs in seven overs.In reply, Western Club scored 79 runs all out, with Kelvin Ukpebor making 15 runs while Efosa Aghahowa and Blessing Okoro of F16 claimed three wickets each. The game was a return to form for defending champion, F16, which now occupies top of the league table, followed by the Oviawe Ighagbon-led Integrity Force and Warri Cricket Club, both of which have a game in hand.The next game scheduled for Sunday will see Integrity Force host Warri Cricket Club.
