HFN applauds Kano over handball tourney

KANO State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has been commended for releasing the N10 million as part of his government's contributions to the development of handball in the state and the country at large.Making the commendation while addressing newsmen on the preparations ahead of the National Handball Open Championship, President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Yusuf Dauda, said the contribution clearly marked the governor as a sports lover.He expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for the gesture as well as for bankrolling the competition in the state, saying that the federation would continue to partner the state towards development the game.Dauda, who was represented by the HFN Director, (Technical), Musa Hamza, said the championship, which is scheduled to hold from December 10 to 18 in Kano, was not only to keep the HFN busy but also to assist the federation to continue tapping the yet to be identified talents for future international championships.He explained that the HFN has been actively involved in the development and promotion of handball at the grassroots, states, national and international levels. According to him, 'the handball game used to be one of the most popular games, not only in Kano State but also in the country at large, and has excelled at various international engagements.'He added that the federation was expecting various male and female teams from across the country to participate in the Kano 2011 tourney, noting that the HFN, in collaboration with the Kano State Sports Council, has concluded necessary arrangements for a hitch-free competition.Dauda further disclosed that the tourney would hold at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata and Ado Bayero Square, Sabon Gari, Kano.
