African b'ball: Deepwater, First Bank confront KPA, Interclube

First Deepwater will face Kenya Ports Authority at 6.00pm on Thursday (today) as the last preliminary games of the Africa Basketball Champions Club for Women hold at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.Deepwater with a 2-1 record is already through to the semi-finals of the biggest women club competition in Africa which is playing in the 17th edition.Deepwater coach Lateef Erinfolami said that his players had put behind them the 82-75 loss suffered against defending champions, Interclube of Angola on Tuesday night and are poised for further challenges.But before that match, Nigerias other representatives and two-time champions, First Bank will stake their pride against defending champions Interclube at 4.00pm. This game is to determine which club will lead the preliminary race.First Bank are counting on the avalanche of Nigeria internationals at their disposal to match up the strength of the defending champions who also parade six Angolan national team players.Co-sponsors of the final round of the championship Honeywell Noodles have promised fans and participants bumper package in the semi-finals through the grand finale.Honeywell official Mr. Lanre Jaiyeola who watched Tuesday games told our correspondent that fans will be treated to the best hospitality by the company."We are delighted to be part of this championship as we look forward to making our partnership with the NBBF to be on a permanent basis," he said.
