Kanu pleads for Yakubu's return

NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) ambassador, Nwankwo Kanu is not sure Nigerians have forgiven Yakubu Aiyegbeni over his horrible miss in an important group match of the 2010 World Cup against South Korea.The heavily-built forward made the headlines last weekend in England after netting four goals to help his club Blackburn Rovers to a 4-2 win over Swansea City.Yak amazingly kicked the ball wide in front of a yawning net to the surprise of soccer fans before going ahead to convert a spot kick few minutes later in a World Cup match against South Korea that ended 2-2; a result that put paid to the Eagles' hope of securing a second round ticket at the mundial staged in South Africa.The former Julius Berger striker had since been shut out of the team but his recent form for English premiership side, Blackburn has opened a debate on whether he should be recalled to the national team or not.However, former Super Eagles skipper Kanu told the UAE newspaper, The National: ''I'm still not sure Yakubu has been forgiven by the country's fans after the miss of the 2010 World Cup in spite of his current goal scoring form.''Kanu, however, declared that Yakubu remains relevant in the current Eagles team under new boss, Stephen Keshi and therefore, pleaded with the fans to forgive him and also solicited his return to the Nigerian team.''Nigeria needs him and his goals for Blackburn show he is back in form,' argued Kanu.
