17th ACCW: First Deepwater, KPA clash

THE last preliminary games of the 17th edition of the Africa Champions Club for Women enter last day today at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.The host club and Nigeria league champion, First Deepwater basketball club will round off its preliminary game when it confronts FIBA Africa Zone-5 champion Kenya Ports Authority at 6.00pm.First Deepwater with a 2-1record is already through to the semi-finals of the biggest women club competition in Africa and will be set to add the Kenyans to its roll call of victims.First Deepwater head coach, Lateef Erinfolami says the players have put behind them the narrow loss of 75-82 points to defending champion, Interclube of Angola Tuesday night and are poised for further challenges.Nigeria second representative and two-time champions Cup, of the champion cup First Bank basketball club will stake its pride against defending champion Interclube at 4.00pmFirst Bank will bank on the avalanche of Nigerian internationals at its disposal to match up the strength of the defending champion which parades six national team player.Co-sponsor of the final round of the championship Honeywell Noodies have promised fans and participants bumper package in the semi-finals through the grand finale.Honeywell official Lanre Jaiyeola who watched Tuesday games told our correspondent that fans will be treated to the best hospitality by the company.Jaiyeola who expresses joy that the organiser, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) reached out to it just as it did in the final-8 of the DStv Premier League says the company will continue to support sports in Nigeria especially basketball.'We are delighted to be part of this championship as we look forward to making our partnership the NBBF to be on a permanent basis because we have faith in the federation and the game of basketball.'We want to assure the organiser of the Africa Champions Club for Women of our total support and fans will be treated to a special package from the semi-finals as we hope to double our effort from that stage, concluded Jaiyeola the Noodles man.The team that top in the six-team round-robin preliminary will square up against the fourth placed team while the second and third place finisher will battle each other for a place in the grand finale on Saturday.
