HFN hails Kano govt over N10m donation

THE Kano state government has been commended for releasing a sum of N10 million for the national handball open championship scheduled to commence tomorrow.Technical Director, Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Ahaji Musa Baba Hamza, who represented Alhaji Yusuf Dauda, the president of HFN at a press conference in Kano, said the actual budget needed by the Federation was N15 million, adding that the N10 m Kano released would go a long way in hosting the competition.''We really appreciate the gesture of Kano state government and the federation would continue to partner with the state towards lifting the game to greater heights'According to him, it is on record that HFN has been actively involved in the development and promotion of handball at the grassroots, state, national and international levels.The president added that handball used to be one of the most popular games not only in Kano but also in the country at large and has brought honours to the country at various international engagements.The federation, he added, is expecting various teams from across the country both men and women to participate in the tournament in Kano.Alhaji Dauda further disclosed that the federation, in collaboration with Kano state sports council, has concluded all necessary arrangement towards a successful and hitch-free tournament.The Indoor sports hall of Sani Abacha Stadium , Kofar Mata and Ado Bayero Square , Sabo 'gari would serve as venues of the competitionHe however solicited the cooperation of Kano state citizens to ensure success of the competition.
