Published by Tribune on Thu, 08 Dec 2011

AHEAD of the forthcoming fourth Nigerian Private University Games (NPUGA) scheduled for Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State between December 13 and 21, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin-City, is poised to emerge overall winner once again at the close of the games. It would be recalled that the Benin based, BIU, led by the then director of sports who is now the Chairman of BIU sports Council, Barr Oyekanmi Adewoye had won all the three past editions of the games thus having the trophy for keeps after emerging overall winner at the 2009 edition held at American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola in 2009 to confirm its dominance as the best sporting institutions in Nigeria. The school's Vice 'Chancellor, Prof MacDonald Idu told sportswriters that the school athletes were in top gear to maintain the standard set by the school as one of the best sporting institutions in the country and West Africa in particular.Prof Idu noted that BIU cannot afford to lose its dominance in games despite the fact that all eyes would be on the team at the games having dominated the last three editions. He teased all other participating universities to struggle for second place .'We are not going to allow any force to displace us from the top spot, that is why all the necessary tools to ensure good outing have been provided for the team by the school authorities. So the athletes are in high spirits to do what they know how to do best,' Prof Idu said. However, the games are expected to hold at three various centers namely, Oghara stadium, Mosongar and Sapele with ten events just as close to 30 private universities are expected to take part at the games.
