4 policemen, 3 others under interrogation over DPO's death

Seven persons, including four policemen are under interrogation over the killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Uratta police station, Aba, Abia State, Mr Celestine Ozuruora.Mr Bala Hassan, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by phone in Aba, on Wednesday, that some people had been arrested over the DPO's death.He declined to comment on the number of arrests, saying that he was 'indisposed' to provide further details on the matter.Meanwhile, a senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, told NAN that four policemen had been detained alongside three other persons.He said that Ozuruora was shot dead by unknown assailants while he was visiting policemen on patrol.The source said that the case had been transferred with the suspects to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) homicide section, Umuahia, for prosecution.In a related development, unknown gunmen, on Wednesday, killed a Police Inspector, Mohammed Hanen, at Gwange police barrack in Maiduguri.According to an eye witness, the suspected gunmen were three in number.'When they came to the barracks, they discovered that the police inspector had not come back from his duty post and decided to lay ambush for him on the road leading to the barracks.'However, immediately the officer, who was trekking home, arrived the scene of the murder, the gunmen opened fire,' he explained.When contacted, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Simeon Midenda, confirmed the incident, saying that police had opened investigation into the killing.
