10 injured in clash among street urchins in Lagos

Ten people were between Tuesdayevening and Wednesday critically injured in a renewed violent clash between factions of social hoodlums, popularly known as area boys in Mushin area of Lagos StateFifteen vehicles were vandalised and and about 40 shops looted as the hoodlums made lives miserable for residents of Mushin, particularly the Railway Line area in Fadeyi .The Lagos residents have, however, blamed the police in the state of complicity in the constant clashes in Mushin, as a result of the lukewarm attitude of the police, whenever the hoodlums started their clash .Nigerian Tribune gathered that the latest clash started on Tuesday evening , when a faction of the hoodlums from Railway Line stormed Empire and other parts of the Agege Motor Road demanding for "return to" statusThe faction loyal to street urchins popularly known as Toheeb reportedly wanted to regain the collection of royalties from POP ceiling traders and transport companies around Jibowu, Lagos.A source, who pleaded anonymity stated that the Toheeb boys were collecting money from the POP ceiling traders and the transport companies until a senior police chief in the state allegedly intervened and handed the place to another faction.The Railway Line faction of the hoodlums reportedly accused their rivals of invading their territory and therefore resolved to regain the control of their area, which was given to the other faction.The attempt to forcefully take over the the control started around 6p.m., when the Railway Line boys attacked their rivals , in a bid to send them away from the area.A trader who lost her Tuesday sales money to the hoodlums on Tuesday informed the Nigerian Tribune that the two factions of the social miscreants freely used different types of dangerous weapons on one anotherThe victims of the clash rose to 10 on Wednesday morning , when the two warring factions resumed hostility , defying the presence of anti-riot policemen , who were drafted to the sceneThe image maker in charge of the state police command, Samuel Jinadu, confirmed the clash to the Nigerian Tribune but claimed that the police in the state were ' on top of the situation.
