Bayelsa revenue board chairman quits as Sylva shelves opening of campaign office

Published by Tribune on Thu, 08 Dec 2011

The number of political appointees, resigning their appointments in Bayelsa State increased on Wednesday, as the chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Solomon Apprella, quit his position, citing the unfolding political development in the oil-rich state as motive behind his decision.Apprella, a former Commissioner for Finance during the regime of Chief D.S.P Alamieyeseigha, is from Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state. His resignation came as Governor Timipre Sylva, shelved the opening ceremony of his campaign office, situated at Yenezue-Egele, in the state capital, by his campaign coordinator, Mr George Allen Fente. While many women groups and supporters of Governor Sylva's second term bid had thronged his campaign office, which was used during the last presidential election to drum support for the President Goodluck/Sambo ticket, the resolve of the governor to shelve the commissioning ceremony dampened their morale.Investigation by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the governor, who arrived Yenagoa on Tuesday evening, left the Creek Haven Government House around 4.30p.m. on Wednesday for a journey outside the state, after he had attended to some elected public officials and political appointees, including his deputy, Honourable Wereninpre Seibarugu, the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Nestor Binabo among others.
