Supersport begins Let's Play for rugby project

Published by Guardian on Thu, 08 Dec 2011

SUPERSPORT, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development, yesterday launched its Let's Play initiative for the game of rugby, which it believes would add value to health and sports development among Nigerian youths. At the event, which was attended by stakeholders in Nigerian sports as well as youths from across Lagos, the Secretary of the Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund, Tunde Bank-Anthony, who represented the Commissioner for Sports, said the Let's Play initiative is a laudable project designed by SuperSport to help create a healthy sporting spirit among Nigerian youths and adequately prepare them for a future career in sports.According to him, the state government is constructively disposed to supporting projects geared towards youth development and empowerment. He urged other corporate bodies in the state to emulate such efforts in sports development in the country, promising the state government's full support for the programme. Also speaking at the event, the General Manager of SuperSport, Felix Awogu, said the Let's Play initiative is designed to 'catch our children at a young age and introduce them to various sports.' The programme, which has gained popularity across the African continent, he said, would cover diverse sports in the country. He added that the initiative is geared toward helping children to develop physically and mentally in the bid to live more productive lives when they grow up. More so, the Manager, SuperSport Enterprise and coordinator of the initiative, Vaughn Bishop, explained that the initiative is designed for both boys and girls.'The programme will help young kids to socialise, build character and develop both physically and mentally. It is sad that all over the world, children are becoming obese and developing health issues, hence SuperSport's intervention to arrest this trend by helping young kids to socialise and build character,' he said.
