Amoo rejects 3SC's 40 per cent pay cutFOLLOWING the resignation of Belgian coach Maurice Coleman from the Nigerian Premier League (NPL) side, Kaduna United, officials of the club have commenced talks with former Assistant General Secretary (Technical) of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), James Peters, with a view to getting him to head the team's technical crew.Peters, The Guardian learnt, held series of talks with officials of the Kaduna-based club last week, and might be appointed before the end of next week if he agreed terms with the team.A source close to the club revealed that the club decided to consult Peters for the vacant technical position because it wanted to hire a seasoned coach, who would ensure the club returned to its former position in the league. The official, who believes that the former coach of BCC Lions of Gboko was the right man for the job, revealed that it was a consensus among the club's officials that no other coach except Peters could turn Kaduna United in the right direction.'It was the board's consensus that James Peters be invited for the job following the resignation of Maurice Coleman last month,' he said. 'With his wealth of experience at both the Nigerian League and national team level, we are sure that he will turn the team around if he agrees terms with us.'Turning the team around is a project and we are sure it will not fail with James Peters at the head of the technical department.'Meanwhile, coach Fatai Amoo has rejected a reduced offer by NPL side, Shooting Stars, and so in the interim, club manager Mutiu Adepoju will handle the team. Amoo told The Guardian yesterday that he decided to reject the pay cut because 'when the club had no money he accepted to work to save the team.'Now that the budget of the team has been increased by the state government, I cannot accept a pay cut of over 40 per cent. They told me that two other coaches have accepted the offer, but I believe that any coach, who knows his onions, should not rush to accept just any offer.'I am ready to talk with the club if they are still interested in talking with me, but that pay cut offer is not acceptable considering what I went through with the club last season.'When contacted, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dapo Lam-Adesina, confirmed that the club was still in touch with Amoo, saying that the state would do its best for 3SC. He said: 'We have not concluded discussions on Amoo and I think it is premature for people to start speculating on what is going on in Shooting Stars.'In Amoo's absence, Shooting Stars was expected to resume training for the 2011/2012 season yesterday with Mutiu Adepoju, who until recently was the club's general manger, in charge of training.
