Mobil athletics begins in Eket

The grand finale of the Akwa Ibom State/NNPC/MPN Secondary Schools Athletics Championships begin today as pupils from across the state converge on the Eket Stadium to compete for honours in 12 featured events.The competition, which started with trials, eliminations and zonal qualifications earlier in the year, will feature 560 boys and girls who will be medically screened before competing.The heats of the track events will commence on Friday while the finals of events like javelin and shot put are expected to be concluded same day.The highlight of this years competition will be the expectation from Enobong Aniefiok, the Etinan Zonal champion who won four gold and one silver in the zonal finals.Apart from the technical support to be provided by the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, the state Governor, Godswill Akpabio, and other notable dignitaries are expected as guests at the championships.
