Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, others demonstrate fresh strength

APROMINENT members of the Jeep range recently in Lagos demonstrated in details various on and off -road capabilities using fresh and modern Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) innovations.Jeep siblings made available for the exercise held along Lekki-Epe Expressway and the Elegushi Beach was the award winning Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Patriot and Compass SUVs.The ceremony, which lasted for about five hours, offered motoring journalists the opportunity to have a direct feel of what the foremost automobile firm had in stock for numerous loyalists across the world.During the test drive, The Guardian observed that apart from prompt response, extra safety attributes and luxurious innovations, efforts were made by engineers of the current models to make driving memorable for occupants of the vehicles.For example, occupants of the vehicles do not experience any discomfort when driving through difficult terrain because of the reinforced suspension with which the vehicles were fortified.The suspension offered a more comfortable ride, which provided 'a fair amount of stability while cornering', said the auto firm, adding, 'The Jeep Grand Cherokee maintains its reputation as a capable performer thanks to good ground clearance and an advanced four-wheel-drive system.'Deputy Manager, Weststar Associates, representatives of Jeep and Mercedes Benz in Nigeria Mr. Kingsley Uwatse, during an interactive session with journalists took time to explain in details the jeeps exploits on tough terrain for the past 70 years when it was first produced for the America Army.He explained that over the years, the jeep brand had remained a force to reckon with in the Sports Utility Vehicle segment across the world, adding that it was presently the most improved models in the world especially in the area of fuel efficiency, comfort and overall performance.Making reference to after-sales, Uwatse explained that the company would use existing Mercedes Benz outlets across the country.According to him, adequate spare parts were in place while several technical personnel had been trained locally and internationally on how to pamper and keep the Jeep siblings in proper shape and conditions.Information made available explained that the Grand Cherokee is available in 5.7 V8 and 3.6 V6 engines while, the Jeep Wrangler is available in 3.8 V6 litre engine. 2.0 litre engines power the Compass and Patriot. All the Jeep models are available in automatic transmission.Recently, the Jeep Grand Cherokee earned an overall rating of four stars out of a possible five, with four stars for overall frontal crash protection and five stars for overall side crash protection.The Grand Cherokee fortified as a five-passenger midsize SUV with standard equipment which includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, fog lamps, cruise control, keyless ignition, dual-zone air-conditioning, a power driver seat, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel.Others include a six-speaker audio system with radio, an auxiliary audio jack, a CD player and 30GB of memory space.The security and convenience Group adds remote ignition, Bluetooth, a cargo cover, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an USB/iPod interface.A back-up camera, a power passenger seat, leather upholstery and a nine-speaker stereo with HD radio, a subwoofer and a touch screen interface are also available.Since its introduction, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee has received 30 awards from an array of opinion-leading publications, television and on-line media outlets and industry organisations making it one of the most awarded SUV.Built on 70 years of legendary heritage, according to the company, 'Jeep is the authentic SUV with class-leading capability, craftsmanship and versatility for people who seek extraordinary journeys.
