Police arrest 11 students in Ekiti over promotion riot

Eleven students of the Anglican High School, Adebayo Area, Off Olora way, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, were yesterday arrested by the police for staging a protest against the Ministry of Education's directive that they should repeat their class.The students, during the protest, held their principal, Mr. Akinola Joel, hostage in his office and smashed the windscreen of a police Hilux Van with registration number NPF 1704C from Oke-Ila Police Station, which conveyed policemen who came to put the situation under control.According to the Principal, the SS3 students, who were asked to repeat their former class, were the brain behind the protest, saying 'those set of students have been giving us problems since they were advised to repeat the class after they were not successful in the promotion examination conducted by the ministry on the notice board'.
