Anabui appeals for golf sponsors

Technical Director of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Moses Anabui, says NGF faces the challenge of organising competition because of lack of adequate funds, thereby finding it difficult to rank its players.Anabui says the NGF is making effort to ensure that golf activities are held throughout the year, adding that this is not going to be possible without the contribution of private sector.He said, "We have some state government who are behind us when we plan to organise competitions. But this is not enough to move the sport forward in Nigeria. The objective of having year-round activities is to develop golf in Nigeria."Without regular tournament, you cannot rate your players. We had a tournament in Oturkpo three weeks ago and the purpose of the tourney was to rate the players. You need 32-hole tournament to do the ranking of amateur players and 72-hole to rank the professional players. But the truth is that we have not been having enough competitions to achieve this aim."NGF needs to partner with corporate bodies and individuals in Nigeria so that our players can develop and reach the top level necessary to compete in international competition."Anabui added that Nigeria must quickly move away from depending on caddies as future stars, stressing the need to have consistent developmental programme, where pupils in primary and secondary schools will be given the chance to play golf early in life.
