NURTW Extends Tenure Of Lagos Caretaker Committee

In its bid to ensurepermanent peace in the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the national headquarters of the Union has extended the tenure of the caretaker committee in the council to three months.The decision to extend the tenure was taken at a meeting, at the council secretariat, Abule-Egba, Lagos, recently.The meeting was called by the President of the union, Alhaji Nojeem Yasin to determine the fate of the caretaker committee.At the meeting, attended by all the branch chairmen, secretaries and treasurers, it was unanimously agreed that the tenure of the caretaker should be extended to allow the committee members to continue to direct the affairs of the state council.It was also agreed that the caretaker committee headed by Comrade Akin James was doing a good job and should be allowed to finish the assignment given to it by the headquarters.After series of deliberation, members suggested that the committee should be given three months tenure, and it was approved by the national headquarters.In a telephone interview, the president of the union, Alhaji Yasin stated that he threw open the issue of tenure of the committee to allow everybody make contributions.'I decided to take the matter to the floor of the House to allow everybody to have a say in the matter and I 'm very happy they all agreed that the tenure should be extended by three months,' he stated.In his own response, the Chairman of the committee, Comrade Akin James, promised that the committee will not let the union down, stating that the committee will administer the council on the basis of constitutional provision.
