Christmas Discount Market Opens In Port Harcourt

As a way of makingChristmas shopping easier for residents, a market that will sell consumer goods at reduced prices has been opened in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.The market, which is an initiative of the Rivers State government, taking place at the Liberation Stadium, is already attracting huge number of buyers from both within and outside the state.Wife of the state governor, Mrs Judith Amaechi, while declaring the market open, said that the market would enable families and individuals to carry out their shopping during the festive period at reduced prices.She said that the market would also oil the local economy.'Having a stand in the market is free, so many business-minded persons especially, youths will find meaningful engagement here,' she said.She called on Rivers people to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the market to do business and also shop at reduced prices.Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Commerce, Mr Chukwuma Chienye, warned traders to ensure that they sold at nothing less than 10 per cent of the prices of goods in the open market.'The state government is ready to eject from the market any seller who refuses to comply with the rules,' he said.Some members of the public commended the state government for setting up the market.
