Anyone For Cocktails

Published by Guardian on Sat, 10 Dec 2011

AT the mention of cocktails, the LBD readily comes to mind but even that could be boring especially when it is not a black-tie event or one that the dress code dictates black. This season, do cocktail differently, do it the ethnic way by sporting cocktail attires in colourful prints .From a cocktail dress that is at or below the knee to a long evening gown, determined by current fashion, the occasion and time, designers are offering party-goers the best pieces for this season.Finafrik, the fashion house renowned for its exquisite ethnic wears, recently unveiled its latest collection to a select audience at the Mega Plaza in Victoria Island, Lagos. In a fashion showpiece dubbed the EMBER Collection, svelte models strutted the runway in eye-catching attires that would focus attention on anyone wearing them.Employing rich fabrics such as tye-dyed and hand-painted chiffon, Woodin Ankara, voile and others, regal, chic and gorgeous attires with intricate details were paraded for both men and women. In a chat with the media after the show, the Creative Designer at Finafrik Mrs Sophie Levi-Ajuonuma explained that the Ember Collection was unveiled 'to coincide with the period of the year when people would be looking for new outfits to don for cocktails, parties, dinners and other end-of-the-year events.'The collection is, therefore, meant for party lovers this festive season though she said the show is an exclusive one for a select few customers, friends and people who would love to wear exclusive party wears for the holidays.'Our main fabrics are tye-dye, chiffon, linen, Woodin Ankara, voile and designs for men, too, so that couples can afford to do their shopping together in one place,' she explained.Explaining what makes Finafrik attires stand out among the rest, Levi-Ajuonuma declares: 'For Finafrik our watchword is paying attention to details, finishing, accessories that are not common, colours that are well coordinated and well-made cuts. All our attires are locally-made and handcrafted so you can't ever get a repeat of the same design, tye-dye work and beadings for every outfit.'The designer explained that it takes about two weeks to finish an outfit with lavish detailing of Swarovski beads, rhinestones, Japanese sequins and other expensive precious stones that are not sourced locally.Showcased here are some of the unique hand-made pieces- gorgeous, elegant but simple outfits to express one's individual personality.Glam them up with accessories for a look that would turn heads 360 degrees during this party season!
