PANTS have been pretty thin this year. Though a few women have experimented with wide, pajama type trousers, most have stuck with the skinny jean silhouette for day and night wear.Judging from the collections that international designers have put out thus far for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer 2012, it seems that slim, streamlined pants will continue to reign supreme for a while though there are a few cheering new slants.For instance, wide pants will definitely come back to reckoning with the pajama look. Soft fabrics, bright colours will also grace the lower half of women's' bodies.One interesting upcoming trend is the printed trouser. Promoted by Clements Ribeiro and a few others, slim legged, printed pants, some with ruffles at the hem are likely to catch our fancy in the coming year. Will it catch on here' There is no way of telling. We will just have to wait and see'African designers, who showcased in Johannesburg a month ago, also reinforced the same themes. Jacob Kimmie had flaring white trousers in softly draping fabrics contrasting with edgy black tuxedo shirts.Christine Brown turned out tailored pants in lemon green, while Kluk CGdT played with loads of sheer trousers, revealing and full in the leg.Pants are the glue for the average woman's wardrobe today. Every woman has at least two pairs of jeans that she wears as casuals or smart casuals. The new jeans have cargo pockets adding life to simple straight legs and are great with a variety of tops ' from basic tanks, to Boho tops, shirts, Tee shirts and blouses. Choose either timeless blue washes or brightly toned, colour blocked pants.Flared pants are usually made from soft, fluid fabrics, and so they can be worn formally or informally. Formal tops will include tuxedo or dress shirts, fitted jackets, slim line halter necked, racer or cross backed tops. It is a good thing to remember that flared pants require a fitted top.
