Boko Haram Menace To End Soon, Says Aliyu

Published by Guardian on Sat, 10 Dec 2011

NIGER State Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu has said that the menace of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram will soon be a thing of the past. He disclosed that security agencies are on top of the matter and gradually, the country would be rid of all terrorist acts.He urged Nigerians to cooperate with the security agencies to enable them succeed in their assignments instead of leaving it to the federal government.Aliyu, who spoke in Minna over the weekend when he received members of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa led by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Nurudeen Usman, who paid him a courtesy visit, implored people of goodwill nationwide to prevail on the masterminds of the act of bombing to bury the hatchet and seek peace with their fellow Nigerians.Aliyu lamented that Niger State has been besieged by all forms of criminal acts because of its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory. He insisted that the bomb production factory discovered by the security agencies recently was not in the territory of the state.'Niger State is suffering as a result of its closeness to Abuja. The Federal Government should do something about this,' he said.He also called on the Federal Government to intensify the dualisation of the Minna-Suleja-Abuja road and the rehabilitation of the Mokwa-Jebba-Ilorin road to stop the daily carnage on the roads, adding that now that the construction of the standard rail project from Abuja to Kaduna has commenced, the federal government should consider the Abuja to Minna rail line project in the 2013 budget.Minister of State for Education, Dr Nurudeen Usman said the retreat in Minna was part of the quarterly programme of the directorate to keep its staff abreast of modern trends.
