Imo Lawmakers Probe Alleged Missing N10.5 Billion

THE 26-member Imo State House of Assembly has instituted a probe to unravel how N10.5 billion allegedly disappeared from the state's coffers. The money was said to have been paid to some contractors from May 2007 to May 24, 2011.Speaker of the House, Benjamin Uwajimogu who stated this on Thursday, inaugurated members of the panel with Deputy Speaker, Donatus Ozoemena as chairman. Other members are Ikechukwu Amuka, Celestine Ngobiwu, Kingsley Dimaku, Victor Ndunagu, Samuel Anyanwu, Steven Chima Obioha, Emeka Nwuforand Mike Ndubaku.There had been complaints that the money was paid to some contractors without work carried out.The contractors allegedly denied receipt of the money, saying that members of the panel should invite the Accountant General of the state, both serving and the past, managers of the banks where the money was withdrawn, and the Chief Economic Adviser to the governor to help them in their deliberations and findings.
