Britain writes FG on Briton robbed by Nigerian policemen

The British Government has written to the Federal Government over a complaint by a Briton, Khomeini Bhukari, who was allegedly dispossessed of N200,000 and N1.3m Breitling Chronomat Evolution wristwatch by two policemen.It said it was worried that no action had been taken against the policemen, Samuel Ekpah and Daniel Marcus, since the case was reported to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and Maitama Police Station some weeks ago.PUNCH METRO had earlier published a report on how Bhukari allegedly lost his possessions to the policemen at Millennium Park, Abuja on October 29, 2011, where he had gone to unwind.The Briton had said though he lodged a complaint at the Maitama Police Station and the FCT Police Command, nothing had been done to identify and arrest the suspects who he alleged were being shielded by the police authorities.The letter dated December 6, 2011 and sent by the British High Commission in Abuja to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged the FG to urgently address the complaint.It read, "The British High Commission presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has the honour to draw attention to the case of Sayed Khomeinizayeh Bukhari, British citizen and victim of crime while visiting Nigeria."Bhukari reported to the high commission that early in the evening of October 29, 2011, that he was the victim of a robbery. He lost N200,000 cash and a Breitling Chronomat Evolution wristwatch valued at N1.3m. The high commission is especially concerned that no action appears to have been taken against the two named policemen."The high commission would be grateful to receive assurance that an investigation is underway and that Bhukari has some genuine prospect of recovering what was stolen from him."Meanwhile, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yemi Ajayi, has said the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, has directed the FCT Police Command to step up action on the investigation, adding that the media would be briefed on the outcome of the probe.
