Group advocates development of Ikorodu

A non-governmental organisation in Ikorodu, Lagos, the Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group, said on Sunday the development of Ikorodu could no longer be ignored by the state government considering the rapid urbanisation of the area.Chairman of IDRDG, Chief Olusegun Oduloye, who said this during the 6th induction of sons of the soil into Ikorodu Division Hall of Fame in Lagos, said, "We wish to appreciate the efforts of Governor Babatunde Fashola in adding value to human existence in Ikorodu."But we need to emphasise that the rapid development of the area has necessitated the urgent need for more government attention in such areas as the Owutu-Isawo Road to Isheri-Ikeja road network, modernisation of Odogunyan Industrial Estate."Oduloye highlighted other areas that needed the governments focus as the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, Imota Ring Road and the Owutu-Sagamu Road. He called for the completion of the Igbogbo Stadium and the construction of a market at Agbowa to which the market at Mile 12 in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area of the state could be moved.Five indigenes of Ikorodu said to have distinguished themselves in their callings were inducted into the Ikorodu Division Hall of Fame. The inductees are Dr. Bolaji Ajenifuja, Mr. Sunday Ogunleye, late Chief Wasiu Erogbogbo, Mr. Olatunji Odusanya and Mr. Abiodun Ogunleye.The programme also featured the renaming of the main hall of the Ikorodu Town Hall as Michael Olutusen Onafowokan Hall, in recognition of late Onafowokans contribution to the development of the area.Chairman of the progamme committee, Mr. Jamiu Saka, said remarkable service to the community, professional attainment, integrity and awards from recognised bodies were some of the criteria used in choosing the honourees.According to the chairman of the group, IDRDG is a community NGO with the preoccupation of effecting development in Ikorodu in terms of sourcing for infrastructure, promoting human capacity in industries and commercial enterprises and providing the younger generation with quality education.
