Oyo, Lagos SWAN Cups begin today

SPORTS Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter begins it's annual week today with A Five-A-Side football tournament slated for the training pitch of Obafemi Awolowo stadium, Ibadan.In a fixtures made avaliable to Tribunesports, the opening match of the tournament between BCOS and FRCN kicks off by 11:00am, while Splash FM confronts Federated Chapter for the second game.The Nigerian Tribune team, the Imalefalafia Giants, runners up in last year's tournament, will take on State Information for the third match of the day while Arsenal Focus will trade tackles with NTA for the last game of the day.Meanwhile all is now set for this year's Lagos State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN Cup as defending champions, Sports Day takes on Television Continental (TVC) in the opening match on Monday, December 12 billed for 10am at the Legacy pitch, National Stadium, Lagos.Vice chairman of Lagos SWAN, Mr Wale Joseph, speaking at the draws held on Thursday, disclosed that the winners of the competition would go home with N50,000 as runners up cart home N30,000 while the third place team has N20,000 as prize money aside from trophies for all the best three teams of the competition.He stated that Best Goalkeeper, Highest Goal scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition would go home with N10,000 each, just as a member of the Organising Committee, Mr Dotun Coker pledged a cash award of N10,000 to the Best Behaved team of the tournament.Joseph disclosed that Zenith Sports donated trophies and balls towards the success of the competition, just as he hinted that Multichoice also supported Lagos SWAN with cash donation.Meanwhile, in the other games lined up for Monday, The Sun battles Beat FM in the second group A match.NTA faces Nigerian Compass as Photo Sports and Supersport.com clash in group B. In group C, The News will tackle Silver Bird as Radio Nigeria confronts SuperSport.Correspondents FC coached by Ganiyu Salman would face Master Sports in group D as Cool FM takes on Sportsville in the last game of the day.The final of the competition is scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 17.
