FADAMA disburses N20m to groups in Ogun

The Ogun State Office of the Fadama project says it has disbursed about N20m to about 150 user groups under the Fadama III programme.The disbursement, which was the third of its kind under the Fadama III programme, was part of the state governments efforts to make agriculture the engine of growth and a major contributor to poverty reduction, wealth creation and employment generation.The state Coordinator of the Fadama project, Mr. Ibikunle Onasanya, explained that the beneficiaries were picked based on how well they fulfilled the conditions attached to the disbursement of funds by the project, according to a statement on Monday.He said oficers of the monitoring and evaluation units of the Fadama project would be out to monitor beneficiaries to ensure that they spent the funds on the purpose for which the funds were given.Also, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Ayo Olubori, said Governor Ibikunle Amosun had approved the sum N60.7m as the outstanding counterpart fund.To date, N128.9m only has been drawn down for the provision of income generating assets, advisory services, inputs and capacity building to farmers, he said.The commissioner stressed that the state government remained very proud of the Fadama project due to its positive impact on the lives of the rural poor in the area of poverty reduction and job creation.He added that the project had also been adjudged by the World Bank as a good example of best practice in the implementation of project; winning three Awards of Excellence from the World Bank and the Federal government.
