Published by Punch on Tue, 13 Dec 2011

There are indications that the protracted crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State may not be over yet as the factions of the party still hold separate meetings.A meeting, which was summoned by Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi, a former deputy governor of the state, at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, was boycotted by many notable leaders of the party on Monday.Though it was reported that the two factions had resolved their differences, the immediate past governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, who is the leader of one of the factions, also shunned the meeting.Stakeholders of the party, who attended the meeting were former Minister of Power and Steel, Elder Wole Oyelese; former Minister of State for Sports, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Dr. Dejo Raimi, Gbolarunmi and Senator Kamardeen Adedibu. It was gathered that the former Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja, also shunned the meeting. It was learnt that though Senator Lekan Balogun attended the meeting, he left shortly after. Unconfirmed reports said some of the aides of the former governor sent messages to some members of the party not to attend the meeting.Speaking with newsmen after leaving the meeting, Balogun said the party had great future in the state following the steps taken by the reconciliation committee to bring all aggrieved members together.Balogun said, The closed door stakeholders meeting is going smoothly and the committee, led by Dr. Saka Balogun, is proactive in the reconciliation processes.
