Shinkafi advocates new constitution

A former director,State SecurityService (SSS), Alhaji Umaru Ali Shinkafi, on Monday, in Lagos, advocated for a new constitution, describing it as panacea for the socio- economic and political challenges facing the country.Speaking at the funeral rites of his late mother-in-law, Chief (Mrs) Duroorike Aina Faulkner, Alhaji Shinkafi, adjudging the 1979 Constitution as the best, said it should form the basis for the new constitution.What the nation needed, according to him, was to redo the constitution and not to review it.He said: 'During a conference in Canada, the 1979 Constitution was rated high by political pundits. This development showed the global acceptance of the constitution.'There have been a lot of contributions from eminent citizens of the country on the areas where we need the new constitution. Their views must be collated. This will give us a new constitution.
