Published by Tribune on Tue, 13 Dec 2011

HonourableAbolore Sobayo, representing ward D1-B Ogunoloko in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, in memory of his late father, Alhaji Sobayo, who died a few weeks ago, has donated a borehole to the Alasia Community in his ward.According to him, the borehole which is meant to serve Alasia community and its environ meant more to him than throwing a party to celebrate the burial of his late dad which will not benefit the community in anyway.Sobayo, who also doubles as the Council leader, stated that the borehole was in fulfillment of one of his electoral promises during his campaign to the area.'During my campaign and tour of the zones under the Ogunoloko ward which I am representing, we discovered that water was one of the major problems of the people in the Alasia community and I promised that if I was voted in, I would make efforts to alleviate the problem.'Speaking on this effort, the Baale of the community, Chief Bode Sanusi, who provided the space for the borehole, said it was a welcome development. 'The people of Alasia have never enjoyed dividends of democracy. All we have gotten before now was empty promises. Yet, we come out en masse to vote when the need arises.'Chief Sanusi stated further that the priority of the community was water. Other needs of the community, he listed included transformers and construction of drainage. 'During the rainy season, the community is usually flooded. Our drainage system needs to be worked on.'A resident of the community for 32 years who also spoke on the issue, Mrs Bose Sunday, said she was very happy that the councilor made good his promise. 'I have been living in the community for the past 32 years. We cannot boast of water supply and yet, we live in Lagos State.'Alhaja Falilat Hakeem, Action Congress of Nigeria, zonal Chairperson in Alasia community, also commended the effort of Hon, Sobayo, adding that she was proud of the councillor and hoped to see more development in the community.
