Nigerian quartermiler, Sunday Bada, dies at 41

SYDNEY 2000 Olympics silver medalist, Sunday Bada on Monday evening died in Lagos. The late quartermiler according to information available to Tribunesports stayed till night at the National Stadium, Lagos where he told friends of his plan to go to Murtala Muhammed International Airport to pick up his wife who was due to arrive in the country.Bada, who was the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tribunesports gathered could not make it to the airport as he later slumped and died on the way to the General Hospital, Ikeja.Bada, who also served as the Secretary of the Nigerian Olympians Association, hailed from Kwara State and was born on June 22, 1969.Media Officer of AFN, Mr Duro Ikhazuagbe, said in Lagos that the wife of the late fallen hero got to know about the tragic incident yesterday morning."Bada actually slumped at the National Stadium, he did not get to the hospital before he died," he said.In fact, his wife was only informed of the incident by the family of Sunday Bada yesterday morning when she continued to ask why her husband failed to come and pick her up at the airport last night," Ikhazuagbe said adding that, the body of the1995 All Africa Games 400 metres gold medalist has been deposited at the mortuary of the Ikeja General Hospital.
