These ministers, Edem Duke and Stella Oduah are not competent

Published by Tribune on Wed, 14 Dec 2011

Your Excellency, know it will be another burden on you for diverting attention to this matter especially now when the nation is battling with suicide bombers, of Boko Haram insurgency on one hand and the militants' on the other. You have to pardon me as a stitch in time saves nine.I know you have a very deep commitment for vision and development for Nigeria, hence when you were appointing your ministers, you deferred from the norm and went for technocrats and those who you believe would be able to understand, project and execute your vision.Honestly, you adopted the normal processes of sieving the grains from the chaffs by considering, academic accomplishments, credibility, precedence, cognate experience and exposure and to cap it all ,the appointees passed through the Senate. Thus fulfilling all righteousness. However, it is sad that those personalities who paraded glamorous and enviable CVs before the Senate nay, before the world, could not match their impressive and intimidating credentials with performance as ministers. Two of your ministers have displayed patent incompetence and gross ineptitude at their posts. And the two are manning very vital ministries which have to do with the image and economic advancement of the nation.Stella Oduah superintends Aviation Ministry while Edem Duke lords over Culture and Tourism.Your Excellency, these two some have not been able to give a good account of being appointed as ministers.Stella OduahOn the face value, this lady seems to combine all the elemental values of a real personality. Beautiful. Brilliant. Brave.Going by her profile, only a daft would assume that her being made a minister would make her a non performer. For she has been able to explore all the three Bs to become a raving success in her private venture. One will assume that the way her skin glows radiantly, the way her intellect shines brilliantly and the audacity with which she was able to conquer the male- dominated oil business in Nigeria would be an advantage for visible performance at the Aviation Ministry .Her performance at the Senate during the screening exercise had raised people's hope that a messiah has come to cleanse the Aviation sector of its rot.Your Excellency, we all got it wrong.Sir, we got it abysmally wrong and Nigeria is suffering for it.You Excellency, this damsel of a lady has not been able to make an impact in the Aviation industry not to talk of dazzling Nigerians with astounding achievements. She is not only deaf but highly irresponsive and careless about objective comments and criticism; such a personality cannot drive your transformational agenda.Sir, few weeks ago, this reporter called the attention of Madam Aviation to the parlous state of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport.Specifically, she was asked to move urgently and rectify the faulty air- conditioning systems at the departure and arrival halls of this most important air hub. This lady turned deaf ear as if she is not accountable to the people. Nothing was done to rectify the faulty air-conditioning system. On Thursday 24 November 2011, a woman collapsed at the Virgin Airline's counter as a result of suffocation. This shameful incident was not tragic enough for the almighty Minister to do something and save the nation from international disgrace.Your Excellency, the situation at MMA is getting worse by the day. And this is the first port of contact which a foreigner visitor will use to judge and assess the country. Also, touts and pilferers are back at the airports. They are more proficient and effective now .Baggage and travel bags are being ripped open and looted at will now.It is sad that while our airports are degenerating and deteriorating every day, our Aviation Minister is getting more beautiful by the day paying attention to hoe, she looks without giving a hoot to the national assignment.Edem Duke, Culture and Tourism MinisterYour Excellency, that Edem Duke is not performing is not strange to me because I know ab initio that he will fail abysmally. But to Nigerians who were impressed by his 'intimidating CV and profile ' duly packaged to the Senate for screening, this man is a bundle of disappointment. They were shocked that Edem Duke who flaunted his achievements as a private tourism promoter does not have anything to showcase as tangible achievement since you appointed him as the Minister of Tourism.Edem Duke has no developmental ideas on how to move the tourism sector forward. As a non performer, he loathes goal getters and that is why he has been plotting the removal of the few Director'Generals who perform.Edem superintends over 10 parastatals agencies, out of which only four could said to be up and doing, it is also sad and shameful that Edem is planning the downfall of the Director ' Generals of these four just because he cannot stand their proactive stance.Edem believes that these performing genlemen are taking the shine out of him.Sir, this Minister nearly disgraced the country at one of Nigeria's international outing when he verbally and publicly chastised a distinguished and an accomplished Director-General for trying to out-shine him.Sir, these two ministries, Aviation and Tourism are not supposed to be manned by nincompoops or irresponsive people who believe they are doing this country a favour by being ministers.Your Excellency, these two minister are grossly incompetent and thus unfit to man these offices. They do not share your vision as they have not been able to transform any of your visions to reality.
