UI NAAT promises to support development in varsity community

THE swearing-inprogramme of the newly-elected executive committee members of the National Association of Academics Technologists (NAAT), University of Ibadan, Ibadan branch, took place last Thursday, despite the ongoing nationwide strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).The ceremony also witnessed a huge turn-out of members of the association with personalities both within and outside the academic environment.After the oath of office was administered to the new executive committee members of NAAT by the Chairperson, Electoral Committee, Mrs Fadekemi Akinfe, representative of the union from the headquarters, the new chairman of the association, Mr Johnson Oladapo Bamigbola, in his acceptance speech, said the newly sworn-in executive members would not only see to the development of the university community under the present Vice-Chancellor of the university, the association would also make sure that there is a significant and unique development in the welfare of members of the association operating within the University of Ibadan community.According to the NAAT chairman, 'every member of NAAT within the University of Ibadan community would be made to have a sense of belonging. Members of the association would also be carried along in decision making and execution and there would be improvement in the life of all members.'Speaking further, Engineer Bamigbola posited that NAAT was very important and strategic to the development and growth of the university, just as the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and SSANNU.In his words, 'there cannot be research activities or other technical activities within the university community without the presence and cooperation of members of NAAT. We are very strategic in the implementation of things within the university community. So, I charge members of the executive, as well as other members of the association to be loyal to the course of the union.'Other members of newly sworn in executive were:Mr Femi Akintoye (PRO); Mr Oyewunmi Titiloye (Financial Secretary); Mr Saka Ogundele (Vice-Chairman); Mr Oyewole Daniel Olusegun (Secretary); and Mr Adeleke Ademola (Treasurer).
