NIGERIA'S International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, Habu Gumel, is among seven zonal presidents elected at an African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) General Assembly that ended in Khartoum on Sunday.According to a statement released by CAVB yesterday, the election, which was held at Corinthia Hotel in the Sudanese capital, had the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President, Jizhong Wei, in attendance. Algerian Moustafa Lamouchi was elected president of Zone I, while Mamadou Ndoye of Senegal is president of Zone II.David Kabre from Burkina Faso was elected Zone III president, Frederic Ndounda from Gabon, Zone IV, Mohamed Abdel Majeed from Sudan in Zone V, William Lebouhang from Lesotho, Zone VI, and Kayseeven Tereroovengaden, Zone VII.The CAVB board was also re-constituted and Dr. Amr Elwani was re-elected president of the continental body for another four-year term after receiving 41 votes from a total of 48 delegates in attendance. The congress also elected six vice presidents - Mory Kieta (Guinea Conakry), who got 45 votes,Gumel (Nigeria, 43 votes), Munir Ben Slimane (Tunisia, 43 votes), Idriss Dokony (Chad, 42 votes),Waithaka Kioni (Kenya, 42 votes)and Camilo Antao (Mozambique, 39 votes).The gender, minority votes was won by Touria Aarab (Morocco), who secured 43 votes, and Aminata Fofana (40 votes). The CAVB representatives to the FIVB board were also elected as Nigeria's Gumel, who secured 43 votes, while Louis Timba (Cameroun, 44 votes) and Issiaka Sawadougou (Burkina Faso) were elected in honourary capacities to the positions.Elwani would sit on the FIVB board automatically as executive vice-president, being the confederation's president- according to the rules. The congress was also attended by FIVB first executive vice-president andNorth, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation President, Cristobel Marte.Others were FIVB Executive Vice-President and CEV President, Andr Meyer, and FIVB Executive Vice-President and CSV President, Dr. Ary Graca.
