Abia Warriors unveils Onyedika as new coach

GREEN Eagles' former attacker, Ifeanyi Onyedika, was yesterday unveiled as the new technical adviser ofUmuahia-based National League outfit, Abia Warriors Football Club, which says it will fight for promotion to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) next season.Speaking while presenting the technical adviser to players and fans of the club, Chairman of Abia Warriors, Emeka Inyama, said that hiring of the world class coach was among the club's latest innovations geared towards ensuring that it achieved promotion next season.Inyama charged the coach to work for the success of the club, assuring him of the players and management's co-operation. Also speaking at the occasion, the state's Director of Sports, Ejikeme Ikwunze, commended Inyama for bringing professionalism to the club through the provision of a standard clubhouse with modern gadgets and virile administrative machinery.He, however, enjoined the chairman to look for sponsors for the club as the government alone cannot be left to shoulder the burden of sponsoring about four professional football clubs in the state, as well as the 27 sporting associations.To the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Ministry of Sports, Sir Onyi Wamah, who represented the Commissioner for Sports, Mathew Ochiobi, Onyedika's engagement has shown the seriousness of Abia Warriors to gain promotion next season, and the government is behind its ambition to bring premiership action to Umuahia.In his response, coach Onyedika described his appointment as an honour and called for all hands to be on deck to make his second stint with Abia Warriors a success. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the club's No.1 jersey to Onyedika.
