Oil sector transparency

Published by Punch on Thu, 15 Dec 2011

The ongoing probe by the Senate on fuel subsidy removal if pursued vigorously will reveal the palongo dance and the abracadabra game being covered up by the syndicate operating in our oil industry for decades. If the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation could not openly tell Nigerians where 65,000 barrels per day of our crude oil for decades go, then it shows that Nigeria is in a serious trouble. Those Nigerians that have been arguing that the so-called cabal controlling our oil industry is more powerful than the Nigeria nation are being proved right. Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, Austen Oniwon and all those connected with the management of our oil industry should account for the "missing" crude oil allocation. Nigerians have the right to know who has what allocation of crude oil, when the allocation started, the financial cost of such allocation and into which organisations account or whose pocket the money went. Nigerians are justified to reject the proposal for the removal of the so-called fuel subsidy. President Jonathan should clear this mess (buck) that lies openly on his table before talking about "removal of subsidy". There should be no putting the cart before the horse. Nigerians must know the truth in this allocation matter. All of us Nigerians should rise in unity to fight the calamity that the poor people of Nigeria are being thrown into by our self-centred leaders. The Senate is on the side of the people this time around.Ayodele Elesho, KJW, 156, Lagos Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, +23480230886
